Teachers are valuable

As you can tell by the title I believe that teachers are of great value. Personally, I have seen some that stand out more than others. The ones that go the extra mile to make sure their students are learning and keeping up. The ones who stay behind to make sure that someone is there to pick them up. I could go on, but I have my own unique story to share.
A few years ago I was sent to college by the government to upgrade my diploma in order that I could get a better job. At that time, there was a concern for the underemployed. Those who could work but not attain sufficient employment to earn enough to live on. I did not plan on going back to school in my 40's, but, I went and hoped that I would find something that would help me.
I almost quit after my first semester. Yeah, it was that hard. I struggled with math. I thought I could never learn. Then, I was put in Stu's class. He saw me struggle each day, and he told me that if I wanted to he could tutor me. He only worked with those who were really willing to put forth the effort. Because of his methods, I went on and attained 100%'s in Trigonometry, Algebra, etc.
Because of that, I was awarded best attitude and got on the Dean's Honor Roll. This sent my self esteem to new heights. After that, I went on to take a 2 year college course in Rehabilitation. I now knew what it took to learn and was awarded the Dean's Honor Roll again.
Since then, I became a Rehabilitation Practitioner and work with persons with disabilities. I also work at Curves for Women.
Stu has made a tremendous impact on my life. I am eternally grateful that he took the time to teach me. Gail McDonald |
